iPhone SE Or iPhone XR – Which Budget iPhone Model Should I Buy?

The latest iPhone SE model and iPhone XR are both Apple’s low-cost smartphones. iPhone XR was first released at Apple’s September Event in 2018, while another was released recently. The iPhone SE 2nd generation is $200 cheaper than a new iPhone XR at Apple.com. But which budget iPhone model should you buy?

iPhone SE Or iPhone XR — Which Budget iPhone model Should I Buy?

Old Design Vs. Modern Design

Unfortunately, the new iPhone SE 2nd generation does not come in the modern bezel-less design. It comes with the iPhone 8 body. Both budget iPhones have glass and aluminum designs with an LCD display. iPhone XR has a larger display (6.1-inch), while iPhone SE is more pocketable with a 4.7-inch display size.

Regarding the display, there is not much to tell except the sizes. The larger size lets you watch music videos or play mobile games with more enjoyment. iPhone XR and iPhone SE feature True Tone and Wide Color displays with 625 nits max brightness.

A13 Bionic Chip Vs. A12 Bionic Chip

One thing that puts the iPhone SE one step ahead of the iPhone XR is the chip. As the new iPhone released by Apple, the iPhone SE has the latest Apple A13 chip, the same chip that comes with the iPhone 11 series. It makes the iPhone SE’s performance 20% faster than the XR with an A12 chip.

Touch ID Vs. Face ID

Even though Face ID is not always safer than Touch ID, it’s a little bit faster and an effective method to unlock your iPhone. However, some people may feel more comfortable using a physical home button on their iPhones.

Cameras

The iPhone SE is slightly better than the iPhone XR in terms of the rear camera, although the difference is insignificant. The iPhone XR has only three effects on the Portrait Lighting feature (Natural, Studio, and Contour), while the iPhone SE comes with five effects (Natural, Studio, Contour, Stage, Stage Mono, High‑Key Mono). You won’t find a new QuickTake feature on the XR model either, but that is not a big deal. Except for those differences, everything remains the same.

The devices are equipped with a single 12 MP wide camera on the back, OIS, and Digital Zoom up to 5x. Regarding the rear camera, both iPhone models have 7MP selfie cameras. It’s just that if you love to play with emojis, it seems that you have to choose iPhone XR because Animoji and Memoji will not be found on iPhone SE 2020.

So, which budget iPhone model should I buy?

Both are low-cost versions of the Apple iPhone. A slight difference between the devices can confuse you when deciding which iPhone models to buy. The new iPhone SE or iPhone XR.

If your budget is around $400, there are two options. Get a new iPhone SE (2020) with the latest Apple A13 Chip and the classic design without Face ID. Or, buy the iPhone XR with a modern all-screen design and Face ID, but it will be secondhand, and you may have to spend a few more dollars.
