By using the command line

This method applies to the old version of Python.

  1. First, go to the terminal.
  2. Then type in the following command.

sudo rm -rf “/Applications/Python.”

sudo rm -rf /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework

sudo rm -rf /usr/local/bin/python

  1. Afterward, you must type in your password and press ‘OK’ to confirm the task.

By using a tool named App cleaner

‘App cleaner and Uninstaller” helps to uninstall any file or program on Mac easily and quickly. It does not leave any traces and cleans all the files that need to be removed.

  1. Open the App Cleaner tool and view the installed apps on your Mac. Select Python. There will be another file named IDLE. You need to select that too. There will be a complete list of files related to that.
  2. At the bottom side, there will be an option, ‘Remove.’ Select it.
  3. All the files will be transferred to the Trash folder. Then, empty the Trash.

By using Osx Uninstaller

This is a popular tool for uninstalling Python from Mac. It is a very convenient method.

  1. First, you need to download the Osx Uninstaller tool. You can visit this link: to download the app. Keep it in the Application folder.
  2. Open the tool. Then, go to “Microsoft OneNote.”
  3. Tap on “Run Analysis.”
  4. Go through the files that you need to delete.
  5. Click on ‘Uninstall.’
  6. Finally, click ‘YES.’

Removing Python 3.6

  1. Go to “Finder” and then to ‘Applications.’
  2. Find ‘Python 3.6’ and select the folder.
  3. Move it to the “Trash folder.”
  4. If you need to type in a password, then do that.
  5. Go to the Trash folder and empty the bin.

To remove all files related to Python 3.6, do the following:

  1. Go to ‘Finder.’
  2. Press’ Shift-Command-G’.
  3. Then, ‘Go to the Folder.’
  4. Then, write the following commands,


~/Library/Saved Application State/


  1. After that, select all the files related to the Python 3.6 version and send them to the Trash folder.
  2. Then, empty the folder.


Uninstalling Python 2.7

  1. Go to and download the app.
  2. Find the option “Apps” after the installation is complete.
  3. Click on “Scan” to get the complete list of files.
  4. Click on ‘Python,, Build’.
  5. Then choose “Uninstall Selected.”
  6. Open “Finder” and then go to “Application.”
  7. After that, send ‘Python 2.7’ to the Trash bin.

Do the following as well, just like the Python 3.6 version,

  1. Go to ‘Finder.’
  2. Press’ Shift-Command-G’.
  3. Then, the “Go to the Folder” option.
  4. After that, write the following commands,


~/Library/Saved Application State/


  1. Then, choose all the files linked to the Python 2.7 version and remove them by sending them to the Trash folder.
  2. Finally, empty the folder.


From the LaunchPad

  1. Go to Launchpad. In the search box, type Python.
  2. Then, tap on the Python icon and wait while it wiggles.
  3. You will find an ‘X’ image on the upper left side of your screen.
  4. Click on that.
  5. Then, select the “Delete” option, and the task will start.
