Canalys: Apple Has Shipped 7 Million Watches Since Its Release In April

According to research firm Canalys, Apple has shipped 7 million watches since April when the watch was released, Re/Code reports.

The company launched three variants of the Apple watch this spring, Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Editions, all available in two sizes: 38 mm and 42 mm.

Canalys says Apple sold 7 million watches, a million watches per month, but that’s less than Wall Street analysts expected. Even though the number of sold watches is not as high as many expected, Apple sold more watches than all other vendors together.

As the Holidays approaching, Apple released 7 new Watch adds to promote the wearable that is now being sold by more retailers including John Lewis. Chris Jones, Canalys analyst points out the shipments of the watch have been increasing, and he predicts that trend will continue during the holiday quarter.

When it comes to wearables, competition is pretty though with many watchmakers out there, such as Tag Heuer, Samsung, Motorola, Pebble, and others.

““People are still deciding whether it’s something they want to invest in,” Chris Jones said.

“Watches are not worn by everyone now. The phone can do a lot of notifications. So a lot of people are figuring out whether this is something they need.”
